This is going to be a short post about the kitchen layout. It’s a bit dry (if I do say so myself). But I wanted to explain where we started before showing you the progress so you can truly see how much work and thought that goes into any new construction or renovation project. The kitchen has gone through several revisions. I am going to walk you through the major changes, but just know that right up until the second we ordered the cabinetry, there were tweaks.

Let’s take a look back at where we began, with the first set of plans, but then realized were going to be over budget. Aka the original original plans. I’m really not sure what else to call them. There were things that we really loved that we wanted to weave into the final design. One of those things was this dry bar area off the dining room. We planned to use archways and other arched details throughout the home, and this bar is where it all began. So when we had to pivot and use another floor plan we just knew we had to recreate this bar area somewhere.

So when we landed on what we call the original plans I just had to find somewhere for this bar area. As a reminder in case you haven’t read the first three posts, we started with floor plans that were bought online, and then I worked my space planning magic to join the original original, and original floor plans, to the home that is currently being built. I also did not like that the island faced the living room. This home is being built on Upper Hamlin Lake, so whoever is standing at the sink, should be doing so while enjoying that beautiful lake view.

This is where we ended up when we had the plans redrawn by our architect. I had him add a note that said the kitchen layout was subject to change, because I knew it wasn’t quite perfect. But we had to move forward for the estimating and permitting phases.

And finally, here is the final kitchen layout. Like I said there were MANY revisions in between, which I will walk you through another time. For now the cabinets are being built and I cannot wait for them to arrive!
